An artificial eye should be cleaned regularly in cold water. This retains its natural appearance and protects the eye socket. Stubborn residue that adheres to the prosthesis consists mainly of dried tear fluid.
Eye prostheses can usually be worn both night and day. If you do not wish to do this, then the artificial eye should be kept in a jar filled with cotton wool.
Stubborn residue that adheres to the glass prosthesis can be removed by soaking the prosthesis in pure vinegar. The artificial eye should then be rinsed again thoroughly with water.
Residue can be removed with a pH-neutral wash lotion. However, the plastic prosthesis should be rinsed with water before inserting. Additionally, plastic prostheses should be re-polished all six months by a specialist.
